EV vs Gas Break-Even Calculator

About This Calculator

What this shows: A cost comparison between charging an EV and buying gas for the same trip distance. Each point on the heatmap represents a specific combination of gas car efficiency (MPG) and electricity price.

Color meaning: Green = EV charging is cheaper. Red = EV is more expensive. White = Break-even (costs are similar).

Charge session: The miles compared are based on charging from your selected start % to end % state of charge. For example, 10% → 85% on a 140 kWh battery adds about 105 kWh and gives you around 210 miles of range.

Note: Preset prices are static snapshots from January 2026. Actual prices vary by utility, time of day, and location. Always verify current local prices for accuracy.
