Mainsail: велике гротове вітрило позаду щогли. Jib / headsail: переднє вітрило. Halyard піднімає вітрило; sheet змінює його кут. The mainsail is the large sail behind the mast. The jib / headsail is the forward sail. A halyard raises a sail; a sheet changes its angle.
Човен не йде прямо проти вітру. Щоб перейти з одного борту відносно вітру на інший, він повертає через ніс (tack) або через корму (gybe). A sailboat cannot sail directly into the wind. To move from one side of the wind to the other, it turns through the bow (a tack) or through the stern (a gybe).

- Людина на носі показує напрямок і бере pennant або кільце багром.The person at the bow points toward the buoy and picks up its pennant or ring with a boat hook.
- Через нього проводять mooring line; на катамарані навантаження зазвичай розподіляє bridle на два носи.A mooring line is passed through it; on a catamaran, a bridle usually spreads the load between both bows.
- Після закріплення все перевіряють: мотузка не треться, не потрапила під корпус, буй підходить для човна.After securing, check everything: the line is not chafing or under the hull, and the mooring is suitable for the boat.
Ставимо власний якірSet the boat's own anchor
- Обирають місце: глибина, ґрунт, вітер, запас для розвороту.Choose the spot: depth, seabed, wind, and room to swing.
- Якір опускають, а не кидають; човен повільно відходить назад.Lower the anchor; do not throw it. The boat moves slowly astern.
- Віддають потрібну довжину ланцюга або каната (scope) і дають якорю закопатися.Pay out the required chain or rope (the scope) and let the anchor dig in.
